The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition Review (Rex)

It has some cool ideas and a cool universe. There is some solid choices for sure. However, I find it very difficult to give it a third game session because it just isn't that fun of a game. The combat is fairly boring and the gameplay outside of it isn't great either. I didn't necessarily expect a Fallout experience, but I didn't expect it to be significantly lesser than Fallout as well. It could have compensated and have something more to have a more unique identity, but instead it's just a skeleton of what you would typically expect from these type of games. Because of this, you will find yourself comparing it to pretty much every other games of the same genre and it doesn't compare. All the weapons are too similar, all the quests feel more like errands than adventures, and the story is kinda boring. Again, the game's strength is so abundantly clear, it is a fascinating universe, but it doesn't really give it the stage it deserves. You see the universe, it's there, but you're not really a part of it, you're just a rodent sneaking around it. Maybe this changes later, but early on it's not the case. Also, the NPC AI is trash and inhuman. I do something and everyone pretends they don't like it, attack me, then the whole city attacks me for attacking them. Terrible.

I really wanted to like this but it's missing an extra oomph it really needed.
