Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game Review (GAZA_TY)

The game had an immense number of issues at launch, but that's to be expected from anything even loosely connected to IllFonic. As usual I gave it a few months but I’m saddened to see that the same problems still plague the game. The biggest issue is the lack of proper balance. Survivors don’t feel distinct, and neither do the clowns, aside from having different HP bars and body types. The game also initially promised a deep class system, but it failed to make each class feel unique..

I wanted Killer Klowns from Outer Space to be the next great asymmetrical horror game but it fails to deliver in more ways than I can count. The player base is dwindling on Steam and other platforms, which tells us all we need to know. IllFonic, as usual, seems more focused on pushing out paid DLC rather than fixing core gameplay. From launch, cosmetic DLC packs were available while the actual game remained in a terrible state. It’s obvious that the game’s unbalanced mess is the reason players are leaving.

I rank Friday the 13th as the most fun asymmetrical horror game ever made, with Evil Dead at number two and Texas Chainsaw Massacre at number three. Sadly, Friday the 13th had its servers shut down, and Evil Dead has been abandoned, with Saber Interactive shifting focus elsewhere. Asymmetrical horror games seem to be a sinking ship full of promise but doomed to go under due to poor developer support and bad long-term decisions.

That being said, I’m hoping Fear The Reaper actually succeeds and lasts longer than a week. I truly resent the fact that Dead by Daylight is the only successful asymmetrical horror game to date because it’s my least favourite. I will not be playing this crap again unless I get kidnapped and my captors force me to play this as some form of psychological torture.
