Holdfast: Nations At War Review (Butterlord)

If you're like me and can't afford a VR headset but want to play VRChat, this is a GREAT alternative that doesn't require VR.

Updated after Crossplay update:
But seriously it's an amazing 18th Century/Napoleonic Wars experience whether you want to play casually or get totally immersed, surprisingly easy to learn with a high skill ceiling; It's both a good time waster for if you've got nothing better to do and an insanely addicting authentic war experience if you want to get more competitive.
There are also naval battle servers which imo are better then any actual standalone naval game I've ever played like Blackwake or Sea of Thieves, it goes up to 80 players with each ship playing a specific role with a specific crew. VERY fun and like a new game entirely.
But most impressive of all to me, and perhaps the most underappreciated part of this game is that there's an ENTIRE WW1 mode for 150 players.
Yeah, this might actually be the current best WW1 game, which is ironic considering it almost exclusively advertises the 18th century side. I love Isonzo but there's nothing that can beat 150 player trench warfare battles. There are even coastal sieges in this mode and given it's the least developed part of the game there is an absolute ton of depth. Alls it's missing is the ability to build ammo crates for infantry, proper gas/gas masks and a dedicated Ottoman Empire faction.
So not only can I recommend this for its community, and doing what it advertises on the page well, but for being one of the best/only WW1 games you can currently play.
Can't recommend enough, very few games give you this much bang for your buck and let you play it in so many different ways. I have a feeling a year from now there will be even more ways to play, perhaps new conflicts to explore. Been watching this evolve since it was in early access and few games have had this many updates that add this much content new content, insanely dedicated devs.
