Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach Review (quinn)
after 100% completing the game and writing several reviews that i was considering posting but didn't, i think i finally know everything i want to say about this game. ill break this down into 3 sections: my first playthrough, end game/all of my thoughts on the endings, and just general final thoughts about the game.
first playthrough: being completely honest, i couldnt have been more excited the first time i launched this game and saw all of the teasers and trailers etc for it because ive been a fan of this franchise since the first game way back in 2014, so its safe to say seeing that the next installment was going to be a free-roam huge mall/pizzaplex had me over the moon to see what was coming. and honestly, the game lived up to my expectations for the most part on my first run! i genuinely really enjoyed the atmosphere and the sound design and the animatronics etc, honestly! it wasnt "scary" like the other fnaf games were previously but i think thats ok and it makes sense, because while in both this game and previous installments there was always that fear of the unknown, this game takes that fear and builds upon it 10000x more because of just the scale of the place we're in. i also must've been pretty lucky i guess on my first run cuz i had almost 0 bugs/glitches throughout the run so overall i genuinely enjoyed my first run through of the game. dj music man being my favorite part personally and other highlights really met my expectations going in and im very happy with how those segments turned out.
end game/my thoughts on the endings: here is where im going to start laying my many criticisms for the game (there are a lot). im not going to talk about the 1000 bugs cuz everyones heard of them and seen them, we're all tired of hearing about them and a lot of them are patched now so whatever. this game to me HEAVILY missed the mark in terms of storytelling and lore which is strange considering this is fnaf we're talking about which is like, THE horror series for that type of stuff and has had a continuous storyline throughout all the previous titles. what i mean is take for example that entire afton end sequence where you're the fnaf 6 location under the pizzaplex. which for starters, i already personally dont like because that motherfucker shouldve died IN THAT FIRE after henry's amazing speech that honestly made me emotional. that ending for fnaf 6 was just so epic and well made and the fact that its what, for nothing? idk it doesnt sit right with me and im not the only one who thinks that. and dont even get me started on "the blob".... why does it have fnaf 1 animatronics and NORMAL circus baby NOT scrap baby and FUNTIME FREDDY and not molten freddy???? like if we're gonna do "oh my god this games on top of fnaf 6 cuz willy a always comes back hardy harr harr" like if YOU REALLY want to go that then at least make the fucking blob thing u have next to it MAKE CANONICAL SENSE!! that whole ending really just doesnt sit right with me, and even the fight itself is so lame considering its supposedly "the end" for will/burntrap whateveryou wanna call him. but thats just scratching the surface. you dont even have to be a huge fnaf fan/lore enthusiast to easily tell that this games unfinished and that there was a LOT of cut content/dialogue that NEEDED to be in the game for it to make sense. for another example, vanny and vanessa. both were teased to be MAJOR characters in this game, and vanny appears a total of 3 times throughout a standard playthrough and vannessa appears even less so. its honestly extremely disappointing, i had really high hopes that vanny was going to be this next generation of murders like will or something and we'd see her around more often but we dont (and shes suddenly in almost all the endings too?????). do not even get me started on the rooftop ending my god..... vannessa evil twin???? is it her spirit??? patient 46 in those stupid cds??? theres so many unanswered, unfinished, and extremely vague things in this game that dont make sense. its like matpat described it "they threw freddy spaghetti at the wall and saw what stuck" as in, theres a lot of bits and pieces of lore in the game that dont connect or make sense, they just, exist. overall lore wise this game just doesnt deliever what it needed to at all, and after looking back on it after playing it, it just leaves me very unsatisfied.
final thoughts: all of that being said, do i love this game? honestly i think so, at least a little. its very messy, unfinished, and needs a lot of work in terms of story but honestly im probably just the most bias human on this earth when it comes to these games lol. ive loved them for so long and honestly always will, no matter what they pump out in the future, these games/the franchise hold an extremely special place in my heart like they do for many others. i think if youre looking for a fun, freddy fazebear mall escape "simulator" sorta game and not the next major fnaf lore entry, this game is for you, or of course like i said if youre just a huge fnaf fan like myself. yes the lore is disappointing and we didnt get nearly enough of some characters like i mentioned earlier as i wouldve liked. but even just seeing all the old posters and little easter eggs for the old games around the mall made me so happy while playing. its crazy to think this is how far the games have come over the past 7 1/2 or so years. i think its definitely a worth while play for anyone who wants to pick it up, lets all just hold out hope the dlc coming makes the game even better :')
