Clone Drone in the Hyperdome Review (kartyan.gif)

One of the best VR combat game ever
I came across this game by absolutely random chance. Steam recommended it for me while I was searching for decent VR games. I've played the PC version, if it can be called like that, but I doubt since that VR game is like a spin-off or a follow-up, and they differ a lot from one another. Anyways, this game is great and I am willing to tell you more as for pros and cons.
Pros:
+ Satisfying combat. I really liked the idea of «one hit = one kill» even when it was only in the PC game, but in VR it feels very different and thus better, since it is now your own hand holding a sword and slicing through enemies. It is now your movement that helps you to dodge critical hits and attacks.
+ Simple and yet cool style. I love voxel–styled games and this is the first game in VR, at least from what I know and played, that used voxels. It is very cool, not only looks dope but also helps with gameplay, since voxels are great mechanic for destructible objects... and enemies :)
+ Soundtrack. Again, it is simple and yet makes just the right mood and atmosphere to be engaged.
+ Gameplay loop. The game itself is something like rogue-like since to progress you have to complete cycle not only but multiple times and in every cycle you'll have choice in which room do you want to go. The room's reward will be shown just above the entrance. So because of that, every run will be different from another.
+ Abilities. After defeating bosses, after the very first boss, you'll get the ability; from others, only upgrades for owned ability. Abilities are cool, and upgrades feel like a decent reward, so nothing much to say here.
Cons:
– Weapons. It is maybe strange, but in PC games, weapons differ from one to another because of the move set that is available for specific types of weapons or even a single type of weapon. In a VR game, you have no limitations in movements, so to make a difference between weapons, it is better to make them unique in their abilities, like some weapons will ignite enemies, some will cause little earthquakes after an impact, etc. In this instance, weapons differ in shapes and sizes and it is good, but the usage of them feels mostly the same.
– Lack of variety of rooms and their rewards. The rooms usually reward you with coins, a random weapon, or an additional life, or you can go to the shop. And that's all. I mean, coins are not in the list of hard-to-earn resources in the run; you'll definitely won't need random weapons since you'll have a lot of weapons through the run itself, even between the rooms. So the only precious reward here is additional lives since you'll die from one hit, so it's better to have more chances. The shop itself also suffers from such problems since the only thing you'll probably buy is lives or an ability or an upgrade for an ability. But since you can easily get ability and upgrades from boss fights, you have no reason to spend your money on it. Thus, additional lives are only somewhat reasonable rewards to be after.
So, it's time to summarize. The game is great even considering that cons are significant. Also, developers are listening to the community, so maybe after some time and some updates later, the cons listed above won't even be in the game. My advice is to buy and play. It is a very rare occasion to have decent VR game released since that part of the game industry is forgotten and overshadowed with everything else.
