Arma 3: Creator DLC - Reaction Forces Review (FlyingGasmask)
It pains me to give this a negative vote, despite the DLC being VERY good. For now i can't recommend this CDLC, since you most likely won't get to use it on any servers... Such a shame, since Its all very well made, and is packed full of fun assets and content.
This CDLC brings some interesting new concepts to the table. A new interesting firefighting mechanic, loiter drone munitions, helicopter floats, remote mortars and much, much more. All assets are well made, and slightly above vanilla assets in terms of quality, in my opinion. Its a new refreshing (and much needed) take on the 2035 setting, that adds some new options and eye candy, for the base game setting. The assets are actually so nice, that I'm frankly pissed that It's a CDLC and not incorporated into Arma like original DLC's.
This brings me on to the negatives, witch sadly has nothing to do with the talented guys at Rotators Collective...
Bohemia Interactive paved the way, back in the day, regarding DLC integration! And made it so everyone could play along, with, or without the DLC's. The only thing non-owners couldn't do, was join the DLC maps, and use the vehicles in a crew position. You could still ride as a passenger though!!! Its to this day the best DLC integration, I've ever seen in a video game! But somehow BI screwed it up completely with the way CDLC's where implemented... Absolutely disappointing!!!
While I understand the argument for bigger, more different CDLC's like Global Mob and S.O.G, that transforms the game, to a completely different time and setting. And i agree to some extend, It doesn't apply to Reaction Forces and Western Sahara at all! They both fit right in, along with Bohemia Interactive's own DLC's!
In my opinion CDLC shouldn't be completely disconnected from the base game, like a paid mod. Needing you do subscribe to a workshop mod, in order to play along with DLC owners... Not very inviting for those that don't own the content, to download 10-20GB worth of assets, that they can't use...
All 2035 themed CDLC's should be integrated into A3 just like the official BI DLC's. All other themed CDLC should be toggle-able in the Arma 3 Launcher, despite ownership or not. Making it much more user friendly for non-owners to play along with owners.
