Arma 3: Creator DLC - CSLA Iron Curtain Review (Lucas_WAZZAA)
Alright, since the update 1.2 there's been a bunch of changes.
The Good:
1. The map Gabreta, while a bit less optimized compared to GM looks amazing, the German side feels German, and the Czech side feels Czech. All houses have furnature in them and look very good and detailed.
2. The CDLC includes a bunch of missions, and with a download of a (official) mod you can add another map and extra missions
3. The vehicles look great, while not as good as GM or SOG, they look definetely BETTER compared to VANILLA, CUP and ARMA 2 (no they are not straight imports, they have been enhanced). ALL of the vehicles have interiors (although a bit less detailed than in GM). Some vehicles do look better than others, and they don't have the same amount of customizability as GM, along with it, the textures looks a bit worse than in GM (plus the textures don't change to what settings they are set), Sadly the vehicles use base game sounds.
4. There are four factions (The CSLA, US '85, AFMC, FIA '85), all of which have pretty good and unique selection vehicles. The factions are all pretty even. All I could wish for is maybe a smaller West German faction as the map is partially set in West Germany.
5. All of the weapons have actual zeroing, yes there is no magically bending barrel by zeroing your weapon, the sight of ALL of the weapons zero in to the range you have set. Base game doesn't have this, GM has it on some weapons but not all.
6. It's still getting updated with content.
The Bad
1.1. Vehicles are less textured, not really noticable unless really comparing it.
1.2 The vehicle damagemodels aren't compatible with Vanilla/GM and all other CDLCs and Mods.
1.3. The vehicles and weapons use base game sounds. (personally the base game sounds don't sound good)
2.1. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! The Uniforms and personal equipment are imported straight from ArmA 2 without any improvement, and they don't look good, for the USMC I reccomend using S&S or Jamies Basics for all of the equipment, for the CSLA, there aint any saving...
2.2. The Czechoslovaks don't use Czech voices (what?), yes, the Czechs lack czech voices, not even imported from ArmA 2, someone has made a mod though that adds Czech voices (imported from ArmA 2) for CSLA.
2.3. Some reload animations are just taken from base game and don't really fit on the weapon.
To sommarize, no they did not take your cash and run away, they are still updating the CDLC (although at a snails pace). This definetely BETTER THAN CUP quality-wise. It certainly is not to the quality of GM and SOG, but to be fair, these CDLCs are also more expensive.
All I could just reccomend is maybe getting the CDLC on discount and use the Mods I reccomended to improve your experience.
I am willing to retake a look at my review if the CDLC improves.
Please let me know if I missed anything!
