Yuppie Psycho Review (TheEqulizar)
I can't properly express how much better Yuppie Psycho was than I thought it was going to be. My perception of it going in was something pretty janky but fun and lighthearted, oh boy was I wrong. This is a masterclass in storytelling that had me completely immersed from the start. I'm an avid adventure game/pnc player, and the puzzles were at a great difficulty level, not too obtuse for you to connect the dots properly, but were also thought out enough to make you stop and think about what you are actually doing. More importantly everything makes sense within the world they made, and if you think you can do something, you can probably do it, which was very refreshing to see in an adventure game. More importantly, there's so much "hidden" fantastic content that was added to this game in a free DLC patch (I only played after it was added, but I know what was added) and it's honestly fantastic content, which is such a plus to the developer for giving us this for free. The content added with the DLC is some of the strongest parts of the game, just really out of the box puzzles and great alternative path stories and mystery. As a whole package Yuppie Psycho is excellent.
I should add, I'm not much of a horror person, and there are definitely parts of this game that scared the crap out of me (if you know, you know), but for the most part its all very tasteful and manageable for someone like me who's not super into horror. The horror here is more psychological in nature, and does so much to build the story and atmosphere which rope you into a fantastic mystery adventure game.
There are some light "survival" elements in Yuppie Psycho I should mention. I never felt too strung out on resources, but at the same time the threat of dooming my play through from overusing resources was in the back of my mind the entire game, and added to the psychological horror and how attentive/stressed I was at times. I will say I don't think Yuppie Psycho having survival elements detracted in any way from the adventure/puzzle nature of the game, and actually added a good amount of weight and reward to exploration and unlocking new areas. I think the way limited resources were implemented worked about as well as I've see in an adventure game which leans more traditional and less action focused. If I had any gripes whatsoever, maybe they could give you 1 or 2 less health items over the course of the game, but that's really it.
All in all, Yuppie Psycho is one of the best adventure games I've played in a long time, if not ever. I really don't know what else to say. It's exceptional 10/10.
