XCOM 2 Review (AlphaShadow897)
XCOM 2, in my eyes, is a great example of how mod support can keep a game alive for years and change it drastically in doing so, and if you want to play it with mods then you should get the Alternative Mod Launcher, which can be found at this link (https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/xcom2-launcher) and is currently the ONLY RELIABLE WAY TO PLAY XCOM 2 WITH MODS, as well as the War of the Chosen expansion (which you would likely have had to scroll past in order to get to the reviews in the first place), which is the version of the game that most modern mods for it are compatible with.
Now, why do I recommend that you play this with mods? It's simple - in a way, mods let you decide what *your* ideal XCOM 2 looks like (although I still recommend playing through the game unmodded at least once, since it'd be hard to decide what your ideal version of the game looks like without knowing how it is by default).
Maybe you think the aliens should be more deadly, or that ADVENT should be replaced with the Empire from Star Wars, or that it would be a good idea to be able to get in a four-way brawl between the SCP Foundation, a bunch of rogue Chryssalids, ADVENT, and yourself? You can do that.
Think that XCOM needs to diversify its class options, or that having classes is overrated and having every soldier build their own class is rad, or that your classes should be able to passively improve as they level no matter what perks they take, or that the base game's Psionics system is dumb and stupid and needs replacing? Your wish is the Workshop's command.
Want to fill your roster of troops with enough characters from other properties to make it look like you're hosting the Second Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, or overload the soldier creator with an exhaustive list of fashionable clothing and combat gear, or create Absolute Monstrosities That Should Not Be? There are more than enough cosmetic mods available to fill those needs.
What I'm trying to say is that the modding community for XCOM 2 is still very much active, even years after its release, and it has helped me (as well as many others) turn this somewhat flawed title into the turn-based strategy game that THEY wanted to play - and if that sounds like it's good enough for you, then you should definitely give it a shot if you have the hard drive space and/or money to spare.
