Game looks great, sounds great, combat is satisfying, progression, loot. It's all playable.
But the mechanics and UI are troublesome. Skills use tied to weapon types with NO WEAPON SWITCH feature is insanely limiting. You make a caster, a ranged shooter, or a melee. Thats it. Because the game cripples itself due to lack of a second weapon/skill swap. If this feature was in the game, the fun you could have would be insane.
Worse yet are the bugs. Minor bugs to game breaking bugs appearing ON THE REGULAR. Boss fight after a cutscene? Game bugs out thinking youre in town so you cant attack, use potions, dodge, portal, or anything. You can restart the game and hope it works. Finally managed to get through a boss fight without that glitch? Too bad as soon as the boss enters their second form, the bug re-emerges and youre screwed.
Minor, simple things like menu text just arent a thing. I sure hope you know and remember what those merchant menu tab icons mean... and what the box is for. Because the game has almost no text in basic menus to tell you what you are doing. Yes you can figure it out eventually but its simply lazy design.
Certain keys on keyboard cannot be bound. No idea why.
What Wolcen needs is QUALITY CONTROL. If the bugs could be squashed and the plethora of small annoying things cleaned up, this game would be GOOD. A really good, easily recommended ARPG. But its still uncooked on the inside and the current developers seem just as clueless as the original ones. Very little productive is being done to fix Wolcen, and some of their new 'quality of life' things end up being more of a pain than in the first place. I sure hope you like learning every skill in the game so you can get your essence, because they cant program a system to break skills into esssence without you having learned it already. TONS of skills your character will NEVER use.. but you HAVE to. Because inexperienced developers have control now.
Dont expect this game to improve. What is sorely needed is not there. What is promised is never delivered.
The game released on shaky legs and it still hasnt learned to walk without crutches.
I bought this 50% off and I have buyers remorse. I really want to enjoy myself but over and over again this game shoots itself in the foot. This was almost special but someone took it out of the oven too soon, didnt know how to put the finishing touches on the dish, and now this golden turkey sits here tasting bland and getting stuck in your throat. It doesn't go down easy.
NEEDS MORE GRAVY. Please someone save this game from its own developers.
