Wasteland 3: Cult of the Holy Detonation Review (stvb95)
I enjoyed the first 80-90% of this, but the final boss was extremely tedious and almost forced me to quit the DLC and carry on with the rest of the game.
I didn't mind the other mechanics-based encounters, but this one lasts forever while you sit there waiting for the boss to spawn 90 enemies as your camera darts back and forth for minutes on end. Once you have endured that boring experience, you get to pray that the boss doesn't randomly leave the blast radius of the only thing in the room that will damage her because she smelled one of your other party members on the other side of the room. . Also, sometimes the enemy turn phase would stick there for 3 or 4 minutes doing nothing; pretty stressful 20 minutes into an encounter that you will not want to restart over a glitch. If you wait it out, I've found that it does eventually continue though, and I did only have that experience in 2 of my 8 attempts before beating her.
The DLC overall wasn't too challenging, even the final boss that I've complained about, which is fine (but long and boring) if you have a full group (which you may not have depending on certain decisions you may make during the course of the DLC, luckily you can leave and pick up one of your other guys and come back if you want).
I enjoyed the overall setting. It feels very "Children of Atom" if you've played some of the Fallout games.
I bought this DLC in a bundle with the main game, and it does seem to scale to your level (it was recommended at level 18 or 19 for me) which is pretty nice, it weaves nicely in with the main game so you don't have to wait until you have completed it to jump in. Also it worked out pretty cheap because of the bundle/steam sale, and I would say that it is pretty good value for money. It's a shame that the final boss soured my experience so much as otherwise it is pretty fun.
I don't think I can recommend it just because my final experience with it was the boss fight that I really didn't enjoy.
