Wasteland 3 Review (a passerby)
Pros
+ So much gameplay depth
+ Many different choices to make; multiple endings
+ Tons of hilarious moments; satire at its finest
+ Amazing soundtrack
+ 4 different difficulty levels, so anyone can play this
Cons
- So, so, many bugs
- Bits and pieces of unfinished side content
One of the best turn-based tactical RPGs I've ever played, if not the best
Skills, attributes, weapon types, items... There are so many loadout variations that give this game so much depth, to the point that you'll likely play through the main game more than once. And if that wasn't enough, the game also allows you to make many different choices throughout the game, which results in many different "sub-endings" and 3 main endings.
The game's take on post-apocalyptic America is also hilarious at times, in particular featuring a cult that worships a god-president Reagan AI (that is unsurprisingly also militantly anti-communist). And the craziest part of it all, perhaps both sad and funny, is that the satire and humour throughout the game while ridiculous, isn't all that far off from what might be the reality of a post-apocalyptic America.
But unfortunately, the game is not perfect. The biggest and most glaring downside to this game are the sheer number of bugs. Units getting stuck mid-combat, units getting stuck after loading into a map, FPS suddenly dropping down to 2, graphics suddenly greying out, voices randomly getting muted... The list goes on. Many of these game-breaking bugs often times require the game to be restarted, but it's also a silver-lining that simply restarting the game resolves all these issues.
Even at 13k reviews on Steam, I still consider this game extremely underrated. The developers put in so much effort developing the story, music and gameplay to the point that I'd consider this in the list of all time greats. And yes, this is still despite the innumerable bugs.
Wasteland 3 has so much right going for it, that I think anyone would be missing out if they skipped this one.
