Warhammer: Vermintide 2 - Warrior Priest Career Review (Astro)

As someone super passionate about this game, I'm gonna say right off the bat don't buy this unless it's on sale or you REALLY want it for the looks.
For this review I'll mainly be talking about Cataclysm difficulty but I will reference other difficulties if it's important.
Fatshark Making DLC careers:
Grail Knight: Excellent! Great career that trades off ranged versatility to be an all-in melee powerhouse with good sustain.
Outcast Engineer: While lacking on the higher difficulties, still brings a minigun, grenade launcher, other new weapons and diversified other careers playstyles.
Sister of the Thorn: On launch was simply the best career in the game with no argument. Nowadays, a good middle of the pack option with various ways to build the career. Also added Javelins to elf (mistake).
Warrior Priest of Sigmar: First off, almost all of his weapons are class exclusive, meaning that they can only be used by the DLC career. The one exception they made for multi-classing was Zealot for some reason? Zealot already has better options than what WP weapons offer him. Two-Handed Hammer gets outclassed by Billhook and Dual Hammers lose to Rapier/Axe & Falchion for crowd control. But for now let's look at the actual class.
Passives:
Enemy of Chaos: 30% power against ONLY Chaos Warriors and Beastmen Standard Bearers.
Incorruptible: 100% Curse Resistance (Buggy and can be abused by going over 100% curse resistance to increase max health when picking up Grimoires)
Implacable: 20% Damage Resistance and 20%-ish over time. Buggy sometimes.
So in exchange for giving up your ranged weapon, you take ~20% less damage which is handy cause you will struggle to deal with specials on your own to a comical degree, curse resistance which is only useful if getting books (optional) and 30% damage against the two rarest "elite" enemies in the game. Already off to a dismal start but lets look at the abilities.
Passive Ability: Righteous Fury: When enemies die near you, you charge a bar. On full charge your weapons do an additional 20% of the TOTAL damage AFTER the initial hit. Bar decays out of combat IMMEDIATELY.
Fury almost never activates in anything lower than Legend/Cataclysm, and by the time it activates the horde is mostly dead and petering out leaving you with nothing to use your fury on.
Career Skill (Ultimate): Shield of Faith: Saltzpyre gives a shield of invincibility to himself or an ally for 5 seconds. Shield explodes after 5 seconds and deals damage to any enemy around it.
There's a load of problems with the ability that are not immediately obvious. The first and most debilitating is that you have to drop your guard, pull out a book, and aim at a teammate to activate the ability. This leaves you wide open to getting hit, obviously. Not only that but the ability has a severely limited range. If your teammates are too far away or sometimes even if they are in range (bug), they will not be able to be shielded. Which again, leaves you with your guard down trying to shield them, usually resulting in getting hit. The explosion of the shield while it will stagger enemies, has a VERY hard time killing ANYTHING. usually requiring an enemy to be directly next to the explosion to be hit at all.
So right off the bat you have no offensive abilities except Righteous Fury, which will rarely actually trigger in time to do anything. That's the main problem with WP, he can stagger, heal and tank, but he REALLY struggles to deal damage. Don't forget he's melee only.
I'm not going to go into his talent tree because it's severely underwhelming compared to any of the other careers, even the non-DLC ones.
FIXES:
No Critique is complete without suggesting a solution to the problem, so as someone who has wasted too much time on this dumpster-fire of a career, here's what I would change:
Passives:
Enemy of Chaos: 30% bonus power vs Chaos Elites ONLY (Chaos Warriors, Maulers, Berzerkers, Beastigors, Wargors)
Incorruptible: Fix the bugs and it should be fine. Usually isn't relevant anyway.
Implacable: Just replace this with Barkskin. It's awfully buggy currently and at least Barkskin would help more against DoT specials (Fire, Gas, Guns, etc.).
Righteous Fury: Requires 500 HP worth of enemies to die near him to fill the bar. Smite should deal 20% of the INITIAL hit to enemies hit with smite.
Shield of Faith: Make the equip and de-equip times for his ultimate faster so at least if I'm going to get hit, there's a smaller window for it. Remove the range limit on it and fix some of the bugs with the targeting system (more precise). Also decrease the cool-down from 70 seconds to 50. There's no reason an ultimate as crummy as this should take this long to recharge, and unlike other lengthy recharge ultimates, doesn't have a talent-based way to decrease the cool-down (double shot, rolling mountain, etc). I personally think being hit with an explosion from a war god should deal more damage as well, so increasing the range/damage/stagger anything would be ideal.
Please know that while I've complained a lot here, I do so out of the love for the game, the character, and the career. I love Vermintide 2. I've played it for well over 1000 hours. I love the concept of Warrior Priest. I love the Warhammer lore of the Warrior Priests of Sigmar. I love the concept of having a supportive healing tank in the game. I just wish it was on par with the others. Please don't leave Warrior Priest the victim of power creep, If nothing else please just fix the bugs and range limit and I would be happy.
Ramble over. An exhausted Warrior Priest, signing off.
