Warhammer: Vermintide 2 - Sister of the Thorn Review (Earthtender)
For what it's worth, I am a player with ~300hrs who's earned done Citadel of Eternity on cataclysm on all heroes. Late-game for a casual player, early-game for a Vermintide devotee.
DLC careers are debatably pay-to-win. You do not need any DLC careers to perform at the highest level. In fact, the best tanking, highest damage output, and most mobile careers are all base-game.
Sister of the Thorn is what drew me to Vermintide in the first place. Honestly, I don't like the Warhammer aesthetic, it's very clunky Euro-centric fantasy tropes with macho-macho manliness, hardy-har we like beer and beards and heavy industry and elves in this universe are egoistic arseholes. The kind-hearted woodland elf, Lord of the Rings-type aesthetic is much more my speed. So Sister of the Thorn was my gateway drug straight to wazzok-thumping and gobbo-slaying. And I'm happy for that. The voice actors behind the Ubersreik 5 are fantastic and the gameplay is unmatched. Anyway.
Sister of the Thorn is a strong support-utility-damage hybrid. She has some fun unique abilities that help spice up gameplay. Her Deepwood staff can disable enemies by floating them in the air. Her ult creates a... row of hedges... that block enemies and can stagger and poison them. You can use this to funnel enemies into your team's melee blender, prevent downed allies from getting hit, and other creative tricks. She can also make enemies take more damage while poisoning and bleeding them for damage over time.
Perhaps most importantly, this DLC unlocks the Javelin weapon. Javelin is honestly overpowered and ironically works much better on the three base Kerillian careers than on Sister of the Thorn. The shade, handmaiden, and waystalker each can build unique synergies with it.
