Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Void Shadows Review (klimov.paul)
Prepare for another journey into the Koronus expanse. With this DLC you’ll feel it differently.
The two new classes are added.
A “bladedancer”, which is available at the first tier, specializes in melee combat and agility. Unlike the common “warrior” it provides less protection by potentially increased damage and ability to engage several opponents per each turn. It provides quite nice acrobatic animations, which make playing quite enjoyable.
An “executor”, which is available at the second tier, specializes in long lasting harmful effects like burning, bleeding or poison. It is quite effective and can significantly increase the damage. But logically it is quite stupid. There is no justification of how these abilities work: how can one increase bleeding or burning from a distance? If these were psychic abilities - it would make sense, but they are not.
The DLC brings a really interesting sub story which is intertwined with the main telling. We are going to meet a cult of assassins and investigate an inner plot within our ship crew. There are several twists and interesting quests and activities along the way.
Although there are some inconsistencies. For example: the assassins cult is located in the hidden section of the ship and we have to search for it. How can you lose an entire section on the spaceship, where resources like fuel and air are limited?
Several new characters are added to support the telling, which makes bridge much more lively and creates an image of the entire ship as a living organism with different departments interacting with each other.
There is a new romance option, which has been implemented quite well. The dialogues and events related to it create a nice atmosphere of intimacy and emotional bond.
Total rating: 9/10.
This is solid DLC, which expands the main gameplay quite nicely, improving the overall impression of the game.
