Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Review (Meat-King, The Ultimate)
"Burn the heretic! Kill the mutant! Purge the unclean!”
WH40K Boltgun (2023) represents a retro-inspired first-person shooter (FPS) game, developed by the company Auroch Digital and published by the company Focus Entertainment.
Pros & cons:
++ Be it the gravity of the power armor, an overheating plasma gun, or the depiction of the servants of the four chaos gods, all of them contribute to the creation of an authentic WH40K atmosphere. Solid weapon feedback enhances the immersion, while the variety of enemy combinations keeps up the challenge. And I appreciate the fact that most cultists are killed with just one bolter shot; it pays respect to the technical background of the weapon.
o Dear developers, you have a broad spectrum of successor chapters at your disposal. And yet, I am forced to play as one of the Imperial poster boys from Ultramar once more. I get it, they have tons of lore behind them and the casuals love their smurf guard. But, how about throwing light at an underdog, for example the Sons of the Crow. As a successor chapter of the Raven Guard they are specialised in the field of infiltration; suits your underlying scenario as far as I can tell.
- It seems the corruption of the chaos gods among Graia’s population runs deeper than originally anticipated. Occasionally, the cultists stand around absent-minded, despite a genetically transformed freak with a chainsword slaughtering everyone around them. The Inquisition was right after all, consuming too much Slaanesh porn rots your brain.
Then we have the ranged troops suffering from severe short sightedness, which causes them to get into close combat, or not reacting at all when being fired at from afar. Papa Nurgle really loves his myopia diseases.
Summary:
Not only WH40K fans but FPS gamers in general will enjoy Boltgun’s gameplay and presentation. And I have to admit, throwing insults at minions of the ruinous powers, while my chainsword works itself through their corrupted shells, puts a smile on my face.
