Vendetta Forever Review (SparkyNinja)
I put in for a refund stating the game is too difficult because the controls are too frustrating to wrestle with. I understand the controls. I did the tutorials a few times. I don't think the control layout is bad. However, the controls sometimes just don't work. This causes the game to be incredibly more difficult that it should be. It's already hard and fast paced. I like this part! However, when the game won't register what I’m doing when I need it to, it's too late and I've already taken a hit. In a game that requires fast thinking and reflexes like this one, it should be paired with super responsive controls that work 100% of the time. If I go to catch a knife and there's a 30% chance my grip wont register and I get hit in the face, that really sucks, man. Also, the throwing could be better tuned and forgiving in favor of the player aiming. I know you’re supposed to practice and “git gud” but it just doesn’t feel good when the guns are random and you’re teleporting to a new location and you get a throwable. You have a 40% chance that knife will go right into the ground, you’ll just drop it, or it won’t even leave your hand, and now you fail the mission because you didn’t kill someone and now you can’t progress. Feels bad, man. I'm using index controllers so maybe the grip on those isn't the best for this. I could see a physical button being better in this instance. What would have been nice is if there was something in the options to adjust grip/trigger sensitivity. That way I could tailor it to my comfort and make the throwing feel a little better.
Additionally, the game can be not fun when you do everything right and still you can get stuck forcing you to start a level over. Being able to rewind your steps to dodge is a really cool idea. I found myself using it a lot to dodge incoming fire. However, this can sometimes lead you to not be able to progress forward. You move forward by grabbing/teleporting to the gun of the dude you just killed. Well sometimes the gun of the dude you just killed flew off behind a wall and you don't have line of sight to grab it and progress. That really sucks when the game grades you on time.
I wanted to like this game. I quit and went back in a couple times to give it more chances. Some of the levels felt slick and cool. That being said I could have just gotten lucky with the gun combinations that round. Man, the weapons being random is really not fun for me. I could see adding that in as a way to make it harder to get your score multiplier up or something but it’s the default setting.
Unless there’s some changes to the game play I can’t recommend this if you’re using index controllers.
