Velvet Assassin Review (Midnight)
Splinter Cell meets Hitman. Female Sam Fisher that sneaks around German occupied areas while sometimes wearing disguises. There are interesting ideas in this game, and some of them are a hit. I can't say the same for the rest of the game. It feels like Chaos Theory without the smoothness or polish. Shooting someone is clunky feeling like in Chaos Theory, but the game expects you to do it in certain sections. Takedowns are good but they lack the weight of the Chaos Theory knife kills.
To make this game functional, you have to download PhysX Legacy System Software. Just look that up and you'll find Nvidia's page on it. You can download this as well with AMD gpus from what I've heard. Another fix I did was changing various files and variables in the game files. Things like removing the terrible motion blur and changing player and game traits, such as crouch speed, takedown range, and how quickly enemies see through your disguise. There's a great guide for it in the community hub. You'll find it.
For the price, I kinda have to recommend it. The levels are mostly linear but they do have optional things you can pick up beyond just collectibles, like bulletproof vests and weapons. Just beware that there's no mission select. When you hit new game, you're going through the entire game without the ability to replay a level, although you can save and quit. Check it out if you're curious.
