Velvet Assassin Review (Kazzy | Team K4L)
Okay so I'm a BIG Stealth gamer and this was recommended to me by a friend to give it a shot so I agreed. First off the game had a lot of potential, I could see what the devs were trying to do but man it fell so short it's hard to enjoy the game when you want to. The story was just non existent, I didn't know what was going on majority of the time and it's a shame because the protagonist was really good, she was just put into a really bland storyline which had no proper foundation to it.
The gameplay mechanics are horribly janky and even the simplest of systems weren't even implemented into it to begin with. There is no manual save, the game literally runs on auto save to the point where if you die past a certain section, you'd have to go back to your last auto save point and progress all over again until you reach your newest auto save point and that was also randomised so you can't tell when your about to save or not. The stealth (at times) was good, once it worked. You could get detected from miles out despite being in a shadow and certain enemies literally one shot you so running away doesn't help. Reloading your guns are a nightmare because you can't reload whilst being shot at by an enemy or while running, you can only reload in zoomed mode and even then you can only walk and the animation is so absurdly slow for reloading that you end up dying before you even finished attempting to reloading the weapon.
I enjoyed the beginning of the game but as the game started to progress more it got more and more irritating due to lack of simple mechanics and just janky and clunky combat. The graphics though for the time the game was released were pretty impressive. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game.
