Vampire Survivors: Operation Guns Review (Radiowavehero)
Pros
Great music , even if you aren't a contra fan the music is just awesome.
Characters are fun and fit in perfectly with the previous designs.
Weapons are great , we have needed more projectile weapons and especially weapons to synergize with Heart of Fire Arcana , this fills in a gap the base game had.
Level design is very good, As a crossover this did a great job of feeling like Vampire Survivors mixed with a contra game especially during the boss fight.
The adventure mode for this DLC is well done and probably the best way to experience the DLC.
Cons
A minor complaint , only two stages added to base game , this is about on Par for all the DLCs (2 in Foscari , 1 in moonspell , 1 in emergency meeting) so this is more of a general complaint "game is good , I want to play more" kind of thing.
A major complaint, DLC weapons all require 1 "Weapon power-up" passive item plus something else to evolve , this isn't a problem in the Operation Guns specific levels because they spawn on the ground but in non DLC levels you will only find them by leveling up but you can only hold 1 at a time. (Like all DLC items you can't find them with Arma Dio either)
They do not take up an inventory space but you cannot find one if you already have 6 passives so you will be holding 5 normal passives plus one "Weapon power-up" until you can evolve your DLC guns, after they evolve the "Weapon power-up" disappears and you can find it again randomly while leveling but for the entire process you cannot choose a final passive item, this is the only way to evolve multiple guns on the same character , it's tedious and needlessly limiting , an easy fix would be to allow you to get one "Weapon power-up" for each DLC weapon you are holding simultaneously.
Once again it's not a problem in the DLC stages or Adventure mode because you can find "Weapon power-ups" on the floor but if you want to use a bunch of DLC guns outside of the DLC it will be annoying to evolve them.
You should not need to use your "Weapon power-up" before a new one will show up while leveling, it's probably currently limited to prevent you from getting 6 of them when you only have one Gun but it would be better to set the limit of "Weapon power-ups" to be the same maximum as your current number of DLC guns instead of having the default limit be 1.
All in all this is very much worth the price , this has become my second favorite DLC after Foscari, despite the annoyance of leveling up the DLC guns outside of DLC stages which could just be an oversight that is fixed soon.
