Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Moonspell Review (Good Guy Nick)

Short version:
Pros:
+ Good content
+ Soundtrack
+ Interesting experimentation with the main new map (it actually has landmarks!)
+ Almost free (that is almost a bad thing!)
Cons:
- The new map is a bit confusing to navigate
“Long” version:
Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Moonspell is the brand new DLC for Vampire Survivors.
It gives you a bunch of extra content and it is very inexpensive. Before I delve deeper into it, let me start out by saying: get it, it is worth it. 😊
I reviewed the base game here, in case you are interested.
Anyways, I will keep this rather short.
This DLC gives you a bit more content – survivors, weapons, etc.
While I found the new weapons to be a bit boring (I still prefer most of the OGs), it is nice to see brand new combos and possibilities. The reason why I did not particularly care for the new weapons is that they do not appear to be as versatile as the ones in the base game. Some have very distinct flaws, like basically no damage output, too random to be reliable or player-damage on set intervals.
The new characters are a bit more interesting; I really loved the character that is basically a glass-cannon: they will struggle from time to time, as they are basically de-powered every so often, but they will go super-saiyan after scoring a certain number of kills and become truly magnificent and overpowered.

The new map is a big selling point of the DLC and I appreciate its inclusion. Now, I did not love it, to be honest. My only “gripe” with the base game was that the maps did not really stand out. Here, the devs experimented a bit more, which is great, but not everything worked for me. I loved the inclusion of “landmarks”, as it is now easier to navigate the map and know where you are. On the other hand, most of the paths you must take to reach said landmarks are labyrinthic and absolute death-traps. The map is also considerably harder to complete (as it should be, of course), so I found myself not being able to move as much as I wanted because of how tanky the enemies where.
Then again, do not take this criticism too harshly, as this comes down to personal preference. I would rather have an “open” map with less zigzaggy, tight paths which also has a few landmarks. Maybe once the next DLC drops 😉
It is more of the same, honestly. That is a good thing in my book. I love the base game and I enjoyed this extra content, as it allowed me to go back to Vampire Survivors and provided some extra challenge.
Easy recommendation.
Final score: 8 out of 10.
