Vacation Simulator Review (odog502)
It's a solid VR game and great for any kid old enough to wear a VR headset. Fun for adults too. Its probably the #1 favorite VR game for both of my VR capable kids.
Job Simulator vs Vacation Simulator
For those that aren't already aware this is a sequel to Job Simulator(which is also a great VR game). It's a worthy sequel for sure. If you liked Job Simulator you'll definitely like this one. At it's core it's essentially the same type of game as Job Simulator but they've expanded it out quite a bit for this one. There's a wider variety of challenges, more areas to perform tasks in. There will be some familiar tasks like preparing food, but also some new ones such as catching fish, mountain climbing, taking photographs, and many more.
How long to beat it?
In Job Simulator there's really just 4 rooms you interact in. In Vacation Simulator its closer to around 20. As such, you'll probably spend about 5 times longer completing this game than it takes to complete Job Simulator. Based on my current play time I think it might be around 20 hours for me to beat it and get all achievements and a few hundred points in endless mode. The rest of the play time was my daughter(she mainly liked watching me play and only wanted to play occasionally herself.
Fun for both adults and kids?
While the game is a home-run with kids, it's fun for adults as well. Don't let the popularity with kids fool you. It's not necessarily all easy. Some of the challenges may be too complex for young kids(like ice sculpting and sand castle building which require deciphering complex 3D plans).
There's lots of subtle jokes about human society as perceived by robots. Most of these jokes will probably go over the kids heads. I would say my only minor complaint for this game is that it's style of humor is a little overdone after playing through both games. It was funny and creative in Job Simulator but after playing a few hours of Vacation Simulator, the jokes feel predictable and a little forced(as they rehash the same jokes on different topics). Minor complaint though, because the humor is mostly ambiance, not the main attraction.
Do you need to play Job Simulator first?
If you've never played Job Simulator, you won't really need to in order to play Vacation Simulator. There's not a story line you will be missing out on or anything. They can be played independently and out of order. Each game is unique enough that if you buy one and like it, it's worth buying the other.
Like the classic Job Simulator style?
Even if you like the plain old style of Job Simulator they have that in Vacation Simulator too with a "Giglr endless mode" where you are just working at a shoppette, completing orders(mostly making food) for infinity. Ive played this for about 50 orders and still have yet to see the same order twice.
Achievements
The achievements are all doable and is one of the easier games I have been able to get 100% achievement completion in. The only achievement that is non-intuitive that I suggest you look up is the "is this gaming" one. Its a lot easier than you would think, it just has to be done a precisely right way(which isn't intuitive).
Which VR system?
I played on the original HTC Vive and had no issues
