Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth Review (Potato Farmer)

Not everyday you come across something that is truly special enough to change certain aspects of your life. Even more so, when it's a video game. It would be a disservice to consider this trilogy as anything but that. I was fortunate enough to go through the entirety of the trilogy without getting spoiled and I can confidently say that this is one of my most favourite experiences with any form of media. The final third of Mask of Truth is the stuff dreams are made of.
Haku has straight up become my most favourite protagonist. The main cast of Prelude to the Fallen will always have a special place in my heart, but the main cast of both the Mask games will be the new standard against which I will judge a main cast of characters hereon. They truly are special and I deeply mourn the fact that I won't be able to spend my time with them again in the near future. I was beyond satisfied with the ending of the game that managed to provide an excellent conclusion to the protagonists titanic character arc. I couldn't have hoped for a better ending. The final stage/battle is one of the greatest final stages I have played. It's up there with the likes of 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim final stage. Towa Ni is such a precious song, that perfectly complements the overwhelming emotions running throughout the final stage. Many a tears were shed.
If White Album 2 didn't manage to convince me about Suara, this trilogy certainly does and there's no Japanese vocalist out there whose songs flood my spotify playlist as much as hers does. I can never hear Kimi ga tame and Koi Yume without tearing up a bit. Nuedori is my most favourite opening song of any game and within a month, I have listened to Rakujitsu no Toki on repeat for over a thousand times. The VA for everyone was top notch, but Haku's is the best voice acting I have seen in a game. The gorgeous artwork of the CGs in this game are second to none, and most of them are going straight into my desktop wallpaper list.
As it is always with such memorable stories, I wish I could forget it all and start again from scratch but I am truly grateful for this game which has given me so many wonderful memories, stories, songs and characters to cherish forever. I will never forget this, this joy of having gone through such an epic. Words fail me, in trying to justify the long lasting impact this game is bound to have on me, and I will eagerly look forward to the Aquaplus 30th anniversary next month...hoping, praying that we get even more Utawarerumono content than that was promised. I wish for that, with all my heart.
