TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3 Review (B. Bergamot)

If you have any time in RiMS racing... this is RiMS at the IOMTT. But on the KT Racing engine. Which means while the bike feel and audio has much improved over the previous 2 IOMTT offerings (which isn't exactly a flex as they were flocking awful), it is still FAR from being as good as it ought to be.

Again I can only wonder why Milestone wasn't approached to make this considering they have at the very least a proven track record in making motorbike games. Instead RaceWard who made RiMS Racing was asked..., who have made ONE bike racing game which received very mixed reviews.
I honestly don't know who sits the development and marketing boards of these games and makes these decisions but they need to be sacked.
If you're not familiar with RiMS ... terrible menus systems, lacklustre graphics (especially for the 2nd quarter of 2023), if Ride's bikes physics are a 5/10, then RiMS and OIMTT 3 are only a 6.5/10 at best (yes I ride motorbikes irl).
This game at the price point is disappointing at best and daylight robbery at worst.
Menus . . the game basically dumps you on the Isle of Man to ride around Forza Horizon style. Except with none of the fun of FH. And you have to press pause to access the game menus and then you have to go into the map to find any events or time trials to see how you actually do on the Mountain Course you have to go to markers on the map and hold X ot whatever to access your event/garage. Why they went this way with the interface is beyond me. It's fronking awful
The bike selection is all the official riders as you'd expect, with all the official bikes from the Superbike and Super-sport class. But nothing else, no classics like in IOMTT 2, not other road courses at all. Its the Mountain course or made up sections from the Isle of Man. I don't mind that really but it would be nice to see some of the other road courses from the road racing series which leads up to the IOMTT. On the upside, the moutain course at least looks pretty nice and weather effects are alright.
I expected to essentially have the option to enter the IOMTT as a privateer (which is a real thing) and work up from there, but this doesn't exist in game either. You pick an offical rider, that's it. Even in the MotoGP games you could essentially start as a privateer.
Its almost as if the game is made by people who have only heard of the IOMTT in passing but have not a single funking clue about it.
The bike 'upgrades' are generic as flock and essentially the usual nonsensical tier method where teir 2 brakes give you some RNG bonus over tier 1 and you need each previous tier to unlock the rest. What?? I mean WHAT? You're already on a fully race prepped superbike for crying out loud? What even is this? *VISIBLE CONFUSION*
Talking of that, the models seem ripped right out of RiMS because even though they're fully prepped race bikes they still have all the road switch gear on them which is stupid as hell. Its a total lack of effort and attention to detail.
The riding is... alright.
The physics and feel is massively improved over the last iteration no doubt about it but that's not saying much in all honestly. The bikes are still FAR too twitchy, especially at speed and have no real sense of mass in many scenarios. And are a long way from as manoeuvrable as they ought to be for race bikes. You get these weird snap wheelies out of nowhere every-time you mount a crest in the road and I can tell you that doesn't happen irl. The bike will come up don't get me wrong and a 1000cc has no issue lifting the front, but its progressive.
The braking feels....lifeless. Its like the braking force is necked by the game somehow, the stoppers on race bikes are uncommonly good. In IOMTT 3 they're about passable. The rear brake does literally nothing. Trail braking is perilous as hell with the game seemingly RNG'ing if you're gonna tuck the front or not, this was a complaint in the previous iteration as well, trial braking is a thing RaceWard, you managed to get it mostly right in RiMS. wtf.
The onboard assists are lack lustre as well, more intrusive than intuitive, ride without ABS/TCS it literally makes no difference. The game will still lowside you into a corner even with it on. or highside you on the way out - or neither, I've had the rear spinning up in 2nd on corner exit with TCS on (?? what the actual farm ??) and with it off and not highsided.
Anti wheelie (or lift control) is intrusive (it isn't irl btw), and basically works as a throttle cut which then unbalances the bike at corner exit causing stupid crashes but leave it off and the thing will jump into the air if you so much as look at the throttle. Again, this isn't fracking realistic! I ride a CBR1000RR, yeah it'll pick the front up with ease, but not like the game implies at all. Its progressive and controllable on the rear brake (which does frank all in the game as I've said)
IOMTT3 is better than the previous iterations and so the fronking hell it should be quite frankly. However it is disgustingly bad for the triple A price-tagged game for something that feels and looks this mediocre. If you like the IOMTT and hated the other games this is better to ride without a doubt, but thats about it.
Do I recommend? In a sale.. like a 75% off sale, sure. Full price? Hell fronking no.
