Trek to Yomi Review (UNSKILLED TRASH)
NOT TRASH.
In Trek to Yomi, you play Hiroki, a young orphan studying to become a Samurai and embodying the values taught in Bushido from your Sensei. Your path won’t be easy to follow. Bandits attacked the village and killed your master, and it now falls on you to protect your town.

Trek to Yomi is a game that comes with an atmosphere and ambience. Whether it is its story, soundtrack, or artistic design, you can’t help but feel like the leading actor of an old movie. This almost cinematographic experience and cutscenes don’t take anything away from the game.
On the contrary, it made it stand out and tied it all up together.

In terms of gameplay, you will get to decide Hiroki’s path and how he will handle the adversity and challenges. Primarily by slashing his enemies with this Katana while using various combos. You will learn new combos that are more flashy but not quite as effective throughout your journey. Either unresponsive or too complex, they aren’t offering anything that mashing up two buttons can’t do. The mechanics and patterns are pretty simple and easy to read, reinforcing the idea that Trek to Yomi isn’t Sekiro, a rogue-like SIFU and neither was it supposed to be.
I particularly enjoyed exploring the world of Trek to Yomi; there are quite a few collectables to gather to better understand Japanese folklore and more lore from the story directly.
Sadly, the game is relatively short but offers a lot of replayability. There are different endings, and after finishing your first run, the Kensei mode unlocks, where everything will die in 1-hit. This game mode adds a lot of challenge to a game that lacks difficulty. Maybe we would expect this game to get progressively more difficult because of our gaming habits, but this isn’t the case. Very few fights were challenging, but every single one was satisfying.
Finally, Trek to Yomi is a good game that will offer you an experience, more than a challenge. While short, it is reasonably priced and accessible to everyone.
