Trek to Yomi Review (Hehe)

Trek to Yomi — "I’ve been to hell and back, and back to hell… and back"

Pros
Visual Style and Atmosphere
The game looks like an old Japanese movie. The black-and-white colors, populdated and destroyed villages, burning fields— everything creates a strong atmosphere. The camera moves slowly and often stays in fixed angles, which makes the game feel cinematic. The visual style is one of the strongest parts of the game, and it works really well.
Story and Theme
Trek to Yomi tells a short but complete story about learning, pride, and a samurai's death. The main plot is about a classic warrior who must choose between duty, love, or revenge. The story is simple, but strong enough to be turned into a mini-series.
Collectible Items
It’s really fun to find optional items while exploring. They don’t just look cool — they also have interesting descriptions. For example, you can find items that the god Izanagi dropped while escaping from hell. These items help build the world and add depth to the game’s mythological background or historical culture.
Optional Difficulty
I finished the game on the easiest difficulty — and I’m thankful for that. Trek to Yomi lets you enjoy the story without being frustrated by constant deaths. This isn’t always common, but here it fits perfectly. Sometimes you just want to enjoy the journey.
Cons
Unclear Hit Timing
Even on easy mode, I had trouble getting used to the combat. It’s not always clear when enemy attacks actually hit, or when you still have time to block.
Navigation Problems
The game doesn’t always make it clear where the main path is and where the side path leads to collectibles. Even though I wanted to explore, I sometimes walked too far forward and missed parts of the level.
Conclusion
Trek to Yomi is a short but emotional journey of a samurai through hell and back, with amazing visuals and a mature story. The atmosphere and presentation make the experience feel truly worth it.
