Tormenture Review (Risingson)
EDIT: I was kind of glad to discover my ignorance when, a few days after writing this, I found out about the existence of Atari's "Adventure", which is the basis of this one. I thought Tormenture was more intro getting an idea of the aesthetics of the era, but no, it actually is about a variation, way more playable, of a game that was revolutionary at the time.
ORIGINAL: Did not expect this game to be Spanish, but on the other hand it resonates a lot with what I remember about playing 8 bit games. I said it in the FAITH review - most of those early to mid 80s 8 bit games felt cursed at the time, proper creepypasta material, and they gave nightmares because of that colour-over-black aesthetic and weird sounds. Tormenture knows that, knows how creepy were the graphics corruptions caused by the device overheating, and is able to bring me back to that moment in childhood where I did not really know how to handle my fantasies to overcome all my fears.
Apart from that, fun little game, consisting of the maze-like quality of all those adventure/action games at the time. Does what all the best retro games do: remind you of the original games while being 1000 times more accesible - and in this case adding a cool layer of meta. I do recommend.
