Tormenture Review (cyricsservant)
This is a gem of a horror game that I think most people over going to overlook due to the old school Atari aesthetic.
The premise is simple. You're a young kid playing an old, peculiar adventure game late at night in your room. At first the game comes across as a bit glitchy, but it doesn't take you long to realize it actually harbors a dark secret.
Pros:
+Suprisingly fun old school adventure/ Legend of Zelda gameplay
+ Great blend of styles, allowing you to seamlessly transition from the game world to your room
+ 5 distinct regions to explore, each with a unique boss fight
+ The different areas all have interesting effects on your room
+ For the most part, the puzzles are challenging but fair
+ The game never forces you to bring items from one region to another to progress . . . though that is a great way to find disturbing secrets/ easter eggs
+ Your character draws a map as you explore the world so you don't have to
+ Multiple endings which can all be achieved on the same save file
Cons:
- I did experience some (unintentional) glitches in the final dungeon area.
- One or two puzzles are a bit too obtuse and felt unfair
- You can only carry one item at a time
- The game is very creepy at points, but never truly terrifying
This game is definitely worth a try if you're looking for a different type of horror experience.
