Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 Review (SkylerHatesAlice)
edit: I wanted to also say that on it's own it's fine, as a remaster it's not. I am enjoying the game, but I'd be a lot happier if it was more faithful to the original. I just don't think I would support another remake in the THPS series after this, the career mode timer I can forgive; getting rid of everything from Zoo and removing Carnival, it's just very frustrating. I do plan on continuing to play but it feels like I'm only doing it to get my moneys worth. I hope a future update will get me to change this to a positive review, but right now I'm still a bit disappointed.
>Everything you loved is back, but revamped
Removed career mode, removed missions, removed the ability to set custom respawn points, removed in game characters, and REMOVED ENTIRE MAPS.
This is a remake, not a remaster. I could forgive a lot of stuff but removing content from the game while still adding new things nobody asked for (Jack Black as a British cop, new boring missions, a new uninteresting level) is insulting to fans of the original. Finding out Carnival isn't in the game, nor is it unlockable, is a giant kick in the face. There was just literally no reason to remove all the aspects that made THPS4, THPS4. I was holding out that New Game+ would unlock all this missing stuff but the more I research the more unlikely that's the case. The new maps are alright but the original maps would've been better.
I'm just so let down over this less than subpar remake. If this is what they did to THPS4 then I pray they keep their hands off THUG and American Wasteland. I'm struggling to play through when I know I can have the full game + HD graphics through other means. Tony Hawk made such a big deal about how hard he was trying to get these games made and when this is the result? I'd rather he just didn't try at all.
I just can't express how awful it feels knowing a small dev team would have been able to make a much more fun brand new game that stayed more faithful to the original than the literal remake of it. The music isn't even that good, Spotify has been playing me the exact same songs in an "Alt Rock/Punk" playlist for the past year.
