To the Moon Review (Greyfox)
Firstly, Who is Kan Gao?
Kan Gao is a Canadian game programmer. He started making his first game, "Quintessence: The Blighted Venom" in September 2006. He would go on to make "Do You Remember My Lullaby?" in 2008, an unfinished demo of "Lyra's Melody - The Song She Whispered to Me" in 2009 and "The Mirror Lied" in 2011. Kan Gao would release "To the Moon" a little later on November 1, 2011. He used "RPG Maker XP" as game engine. "To the Moon" would become Kan's the most popular work.
Story
One of the best story games I've ever seen.Sigmund Corporation uses a technology that can create artificial memories. They offer this as a "wish fulfillment" service to people on their death beds. Since these artificial memories conflict with the patient's real memories, the procedure is only legal to do on people without much time left to live. Sigmund Corp. employees Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts are tasked with fulfilling the lifelong dream of the dying Johnny Wyles. Johnny wants to go to the moon, although he doesn't know why. The doctors insert themselves into an interactive compilation of his memories and traverse backwards through his life via mementos. We play the game as Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts.
Music
Musics of the game are really good. There is already a piano scene at the beginning of the game and you hear a lot of "For River". The tracks "Having Lied", "Lament of a Stranger" and "Moonwisher" are also very good. And hold on tight.. Kan Gao composed the music for the game.
Gameplay
There isn't much about gameplay, but sometimes when I clicked somewhere, I saw the character go to ridiculous places. The gameplay is not very good. I attribute this to the fact that it's an old indie game, but like I said, it's not a big deal. Already after a while you get used to it.
In conclusion
The game made me sad. One of the best games I've played recently. I probably won't forget the game in the future. I think there are very few games that can convey emotions so well. It's an original story that I have not experienced before. If you're looking for an emotional damage and great music, you're in the right place...10/10
