Tiny Thor Review (bnelson333)
I've been waiting for this come out for a while, it looked like one of my favorite kinds of games, a "fast platformer".
Something like New Super Marios Bros U Deluxe. A fast paced, minimal "figuring stuff out", just sending it kinda game. Not Mario Maker hard, just something fast and fun.
In that regard, this game was a disappointment. It's not at all like what it seemed to me at first. It's not nearly as fast as I had hoped for, and there's a lot of mini puzzles to figure out.
That said, it is actually a fantastic game, especially if you grew up in the 16 bit era. Everything about this game feels "period correct", with one exception. The graphics, sound, controls, etc all feel like this could have been a long lost Genesis game. The only thing missing is the excessive sprite lag, which is actually a good thing. Some parts of this game would have bogged down any old console. It's actually fun to have to deal with the challenge without the slowdown.
I have played my fair share of these "modern retro platformers" and I usually quickly lose interest, but this game has me hooked. The puzzles frequently leave me scratching my head at first, but after thinking about it for a minute, you realize they really aren't that hard. Overall the game has a pretty solid "challenging but not difficult" feel to it.
If the devs decide to make a sequel, I hope we get the ability to run/walk. That's the only thing this game is missing.
