This War of Mine: Forget Celebrations Review (solton)
As a huge fan of This War of Mine, I have to say that the biggest win in this DLC is simply the fact that the developers decided to return to this game. I’ve been quite disappointed with the lack of updates and support for the game, so seeing this DLC was a pleasant surprise. However, as I reflect on it, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it.
First off, the DLC doesn’t add much content. It’s nice to see the developers return, but this release doesn’t feel like it adds enough to the game to make it stand out. The new content isn’t particularly unique or exciting, and it doesn’t really enhance the overall experience that much. For me, it’s not something that radically changes the game, and in the grand scheme of things, it’s hard to justify the DLC as a must-have for fans of the base game.
What really bothers me is that this DLC hasn’t fixed the modding tool. As a fan of mods in the game, I was hoping that this would be the perfect opportunity for the developers to finally address the broken modding tool. Unfortunately, it was barely updated, and the tool is still plagued by issues, most notably the problem with text bubble overwriting. This was a perfect chance to finally fix it, but they didn’t. That’s probably my biggest disappointment with this DLC, especially since modding plays such a significant role in the community’s engagement with the game.
To sum it up, I’m glad to see some additional content for one of my favorite games, but at the same time, this DLC didn’t add enough to make a lasting impact. The fact that modding still remains broken just makes it worse. I appreciate the effort, but it didn’t hit the mark for me.
