This War of Mine: Forget Celebrations Review (Eltarn)
This War of Mine holds a special place in my heart. While the game itself is not without problems, pretty much every aspect can criticized and improved, it's one of the most atmospheric games I've enjoyed playing. So I truly, truly love the game and while I understand 11 bit studious decision to focus on Frostpunk and other projects, I still dearly hope that one day they will make a sequel for this game.
So when I heard that a new DLC coming out, I would've bought it regardless of its quality - just to signal the devs that people are interested in the game. So why I'm complaining then?
Because this is just terrible. I don't care, that it's cheap, this DLC would be bad even for free. It adds a very tiny amount of new content - basically you'll have a special verison of Katia with a unique trait that just reduces her max health a tiny bit. You'll have a quest to collect 11 items scattered along the locations in the game, but that quest doesn't take into the account that some locations will be unaccesable at random times - it's not a big deal, but that doesn't feel tested by devs. You get a new safehouse - which is, admiteddly, quite nice aesthetically, but as far as I can tell, it's only avaiable for this DLC - and since you can't change characters you start with, it's always Pavel and Marin, it's essentially pointless after you complete the DLC. Katia also will have new lines for different locations - but a lot of those lines don't fit into already exisitng location narrative, and it also feels as if some of those lines are written by AI. And there are bugs - sometimes canned goods can't be eaten. At some point in time second Katia can ask to join your group, because devs apparently forgot to remove her from the pool of possible survivors.
Ok, they didn't want to make a huge dlc - that's fair, not a problem, but at least make sure that the content they are selling is polished. Also they could implement some much needed QoL features - like making sure that visitors spawn at the start of the day, not randomly from 8 to 10, let players choose what safehouse they want for their games, e.t.c. This is, honestly, just embarassing. Unless you really want to support charities, you shouldn't buy this.
