TheHunter: Call of the Wild - Smoking Barrels Weapon Pack Review (MurderDethKillz)

Whereas I love the COTW Hunting game, I have to tell you Expansive Worlds is HORRIBLE at how they market / disseminate their weapon packs and in this DLC it's never more evident. Do I recommend it? Conditionally, yes. Do I hate how lazy they were on providing info on why you should care to buy it? Even more so YES!
In nutshell, the most important factor for getting best trophy / kill / harvest score is matching the correct weapon + ammo combo to tackle the right prey animal "class" (size) with best placed kill shot. Yes, it's possible to kill the Great White Unicorn of Moose with .22 pistol in a 1-in-a-million shot. BUT the game would penalize your score for using wrong weapon for animal size class. If that is really the most important factor....why does Expansive Worlds NEVER put that info in the ads for DLC weapons packs???
Even in game they make it completely ridiculous to figure out which gun + ammo combo gives you the best reward for killing different size class game animals. You go to store and look up rifle. If you get anything at all it's generics like good for"small," "med" or "large" prey. But the game scores you on class scale from 1-9. Where does that generic fall into that? You have to dig into the ammo THEN you finally find out what size class it's meant for AND different ammo for same weapon can change that class rating scoring. It's a bit frustrating and waste of time to sort out in something that supposed to be fun. And gets more confusing the more weapons and DLC you add. I mention this as this DLC highlights this issue to extreme.
If you're still with me, try finding what class size each weapon is good for in this DLC?? (again the most important thing for it's scoring system)?? Now if you're no gun expert that doesn't happen to know every caliber for every weapon...what caliber is the M1?? EVEN IN THE GAME THE STORE NEVER TELLS YOU THE RIGHT AMMO TO BUY!!!! Again, horribly lazy and unnecessarily frustrating esp. how expensive they make ammo in game to waste funds trying to figure it out.
TDLR: So having said all that what's the conditions you would bother with this DLC? It's basically either historical, fantasizing or weapon balancing. If you want to hunt living out any Davy Crockett black powder hunting fantasies with a very, loud but accurate to 100m, .50 caliber rifle that handles classes 3-8 in a 1 shot deal, you get the Hudzik Caplock. Or if you want to hunt with WW2 mock up rifle that's very powerful but with fairly high recoil which almost negates semi-auto for firing on same animal more than once and handles classes 4-8 then ya get M1 IWANIEC. This is non-military version of M1 Garand and is .30-06 caliber.
The MILLER MODEL 1891's Shotgun BEST SELLING POINT AND MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR that Expansive Worlds completely fails to mention is that it's ONE weapon that you can carry in game and with just x3 ammo types (scatter + slug shot) you can cover entire spread of prey animal size classes of 1-9. BUT at more limited range than high powered rifles. Typically, to do same you would need to carry combo of several weapons with different ammo and varying ranges while balancing a limited carrying capacity. NOW do you understand why it's so frustrating that Expansive Worlds doesn't provide this info ahead of time???
