TheHunter: Call of the Wild - Mississippi Acres Preserve Review (nymneo)
The map looks nice and the new animals are cool, but the bugs and completely stupid "intentional" problems with it make it not worth paying for. Alligators for example are mostly the main selling point and also are the most BUGGED things in the entire game. I've killed a few dozen now and its extremely frustrating that one of the coolest and more fun animals to hunt, barely function like they do in real life, except for the terrible "intentional" BUG of them sinking when killed which might be "realistic" but is completely unfair and completely terrible design considering-
-They are considered class 6 when they should be 7 or higher since weapons designed for class 6 and under don't actually kill them quick enough even with vital shots. I've had more success using the old timey Hudzik .50 caplock on them than using 7mm or bullets that are supposed to damage them. .454 works if they get close enough, but if you have to rely on a revolver to kill something long range over a rifle, its poor design/bugged.
-They have overtuned hearing/smell and will run away into the river long before you show up unless you have maxed the skill for reduced noise, put bloodhound into kennel, have no backpack equipped and be under a certain amount of weight, and crouch/prone walk from around 300m away from a river to the river, but by then they will still know you are coming and be in the water, just not hiding under it. Even when you are walking on the map AWAY from rivers, you still will hear warning sounds of alligators more than any other animal as if you were hunting Gemsbok in Vurhonga.
-Alligators in water are not only too skittish but will also 70% of the time just die underwater and the body refuses to float up. I've found a few tricks that work maybe 30% of the time to retrieve them, but the chance of them working is so low why even bother. Sometimes if you wait in the water for 10 minutes MAYBE an alligator will be realistic and try sneaking up on you when you are in their territory, but its like only 1 in every 20 gators will try it, unlike in real life where if you walked into the middle of a river FULL of gators during their feeding time and in their territory, you might have a bad time.
At least the Gators are plentiful map-wide. Nearly all the other animals are on other maps, or similar enough to animals on other maps that you really only want this map specifically for Alligators. The .22H is a nice rifle too but if you have other DLC you can pretty easily make due without it. Boats are plentiful map-wide too, but you can't use them, only stare at them and take pictures.
There's plenty more bugs on this specific map, like haunted fences and enviroment pieces, but they pale in comparison to the ONLY real selling point of the map being BUGGED. Coming from somebody who lives near plenty of Alligators, it's sad to finally get a really cool fan-request animal, just for it to be so SLOPPY. The amount of bugs in this game is on-par with a crappy euro-jank RPG you might find in the bargain bin at a store, only this game charges you for 90% of its content. I love this game, and most of its DLC but I can't justify anybody buying this until the main selling point-Alligators are specifically fixed properly.
