TheHunter: Call of the Wild - Medved-Taiga Review (Silent Sniper)

The Taiga is a completely different map from the others. Set in Siberia, lakes are frozen, it snows instead of raining, and the thick forest is tough to track in.
Personally, this is my least favorite reserve. My reasons, in descending order of importance: The thick forest is great for ambush hunters, but significantly reduces the opportunity to hunt at distance. The animals feel like a rehash of Layton Lakes with Musk Deer (Roe Deer mechanics). The tracking markers are a different color on this reserve, pink and green, which ostensibly were to contrast with the white snow, but I find just makes them more difficult to see. The terrain includes a long mountain range that is difficult to climb cutting the reserve in half, meaning until you have every outpost unlocked, you are circling the reserve instead of cutting through it. ATVs are essentially useless as they spin out driving on the open snow areas and cannot get up to speed anywhere else. The music, while different and very good, doesn't have the same CoTW feel; it actually reminds me of Battlefield 1 or Tannenberg.
What does the map DLC do right? A lot! It is visually stunning. The storyline is long and complex with branches and side missions for either a campaign element or just to pick up extra money. The frozen lakes offer an opportunity to hunt the entire coastline as opposed to just line of sight.
There are plenty of reasons to pick up this DLC. Even knowing what I do now, I would go back and do it again for completionism. For return hunting trips though, it just isn't my cup of tea.
