TheHunter: Call of the Wild - Medved-Taiga Review (Flower Class Corvette)

This was the first additional map for this game, but it's probably not the best one to purchase as your first DLC reserve now.
The dense underbrush of the forest can make for a challenging environment for beginners unless you stick to the open expanses of the frozen lakes, so if you found Hirschfelden noisy and frustrating at times, Medved-Taiga may not always be much easier (there are much more open terrains like Te Awaroa that may suit new players better). On the other hand, the long sight lines and lack of cover for animals somehow 'drinking' at frozen lakes(!) may represent the biggest plus point for experienced players looking for the most efficient reserve on which to grind moose since the drink zones on this map are much more open than, say, New England.
Medved-Taiga's limited variety of species (only one each for classes 1-8) may feel disappointing compared to the standard set by the most recent maps, and only one of those eight species (Siberian Musk Deer) is truly unique to this reserve (Western Capercaillie, Eurasian Lynx & Eurasian Brown Bear also feature in Revontuli Coast, for example) so unless you specifically want to hunt musk deer in a snowy siberian lanscape, consider the Yukon reserve as a potential alternative, since it features several of the same core species (moose, gray wolves, caribou) in a more varied setting. Having said that, if you are an experienced player and already have all the other DLC, Medved-Taiga may offer a refreshing change of scenery: sure, it snows regularly in Yukon but the Taiga is a winter wonderland 100% of the time! All the reserves in this game are immersive environments but Medved-Taiga really stands out for its beauty and atmosphere.
One thing that annoyed me: some of the wind sound effects on this map can sound like footsteps, which may sound like a minor gripe but in a game where audio is so important is still really unfortunate.
As ever, the SP campaign is of limited interest except to starting players who need the modest cash and XP rewards; there's a shotgun ('Grankin's Shotgun') you can unlock via missions but it's statistically identical to the Caversham Steward 12G so not worth the effort unless you want to collect every weapon in the game.
TLDR:
- Do buy this Medved-Taiga DLC reserve if you like hunting in eternal snow and like your screenshots to be predominantly white!
- Do buy it if you are embarking on a moose 'Great One' grind and want more open drink zones than on some of the other moose maps;
- Do buy it if you have the Spring Creek Manor DLC trophy lodge and a large number of small wall plaques to fill since Siberian Musk Deer (with their adorable vampire fangs) make an excellent class 2 trophy for those of us who don't hunt raccoons, foxes etc;
- Don't buy it if you find permanent snow oppressive;
- Don't buy it if you started with one of the most recent reserves (Revontuli or Emerald Coasts, for example) and expect the same variety of species;
- Look elsewhere if you have just the base game and are considering purchasing your first DLC reserve to give you a more forgiving environment in which to learn the game (Yukon or Silver Ridge Peaks would be my recommendations for that, reviews of those to follow).
