TheHunter: Call of the Wild - Duck and Cover Pack Review (Hawkeye)
I'll start with the positives, of which there are few. The guns are fantastic. They're beautifully modeled and faithfully represented.
Now, the rest of this pack I just can't get behind. I don't understand the point of it all. The primary issue is that the ducks just don't fly. They remain swimming around the bodies of water until you spook them off. With that being said, what is the point of the waterfowl blind, decoys, and caller? I have tried numerous locations (yes I know how Need Zones work, in fact you can't even place decoys unless they're close enough to a Need Zone). At some locations, I get an initial flock to come in, then nothing at all. I have sat in a blind for real-life hours without ever seeing a flock flying. I have hunted Parque Fernando & Layton Lakes for dozens of hours without seeing ducks fly. Compare this to goose hunting on Hirschfelden, where geese are flying in at very reasonable intervals. Compare this to theHunter Classic where ducks fly in quickly enough to kill 70 ducks in a couple of hours.
The experience is also hampered by bugs, whereby many bodies of water don't allow you to even discover Need Zones. When you find ducks on these bodies of water, you can spot them "Eating" or "Resting", but you don't discover the Need Zone. You can also walk the entire perimeter of the water and not find any feathers. Since you can't "discover" the Need Zone, you can't place decoys, and so can't really hunt that area for any prolonged period of time (assuming the flying issue was ever resolved anyway).
The result of the combination of these issues is that duck hunting is reduced to "spawn mashing", that is, setting up multiple tents/decoy/blind combinations, fast traveling between them and shooting what's already there in the water. This is the primary strategy for anybody right now that is duck hunting on COTW, and it is laughable. If not for the shotguns, I would refund this DLC immediately.
