The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Review (whizbang67)
Solid VR game. Doesn't feel like a tech demo like many VR titles out there, it is a full gameplay experience.
Pros
- Kill zombies (always fun)
- Killing zombies is very visceral and satisfying
- Good variety of weapons and crafting recipes
- Can progress at your own pace - rush through the story or take your time and scavenge to upgrade your gear hoard
- Immersive atmosphere
- Physics based combat
Cons
- Physics can feel a bit clunky at times; heavy things move very slowly, sometimes it takes a moment for your VR hands to catch up to your hands IRL which can be jarring. The best way to counteract this (same as in Boneworks) is to move IRL like you are moving something heavy or clunky, and it will just work better.
- Areas aren't huge
- I'm over half way in and there isn't a ton of enemy variety - humans, zombies, and one special zombie type so far.
- Save system can cause some issues if you (like me) use a wireless adapter that is prone to occasional disconnects. Lack of a quick save function and saving only happening during sleep/travel means that if you have a random disconnect that requires restarting your headset/SteamVR, you can lose a chunk of progress (but no more than 1 in game days worth, which is typically at most 20-30 minutes).
- If you prefer realistic graphics then you may not like these as much, they have a slightly cartoony cell-shaded design similar to the walking dead pc games. I personally think it adds some charm and differentiates it from other generic VR zombie shooters, but to each their own.
Overall, it's a great game if you like killing zombies, or the walking dead games, or both. For $21.99 on sale, it's a solid thumbs up from me.
