The Thrill of the Fight Review (j_matrice)
This game is the future and has become my all time favorite game. Here is my deep review of this game.
I have been using this game as tool for the past 2 years. I own it both on steam and the quest store for portability. I am a competitive boxer working on a professional career but I also use my boxing skills to coach and make money. The benefits of this game in both my training and my class are outstanding. I will first say, I utilize this game as tool in my boxing class. Since I run these classes at the YMCA, sparring is not allowed. I use this game to simulate the effects of sparring, as well as give my clients the opportunity to utilize real world moves in a higher intense scenario. To hit mitts and the heavy bag is one thing but you really need to box live action to truly understand the fundamentals of boxing/fighting. This game bridges the gap when it comes to applying new moves at a real world intensity but also being in a safe, no damage environment. I have a 70 year old man using this game to learn real combative skills and he absolutely loves it. We will train footwork and combinations and then apply it in the game. It really works, this man can stick and move like a boxer thanks to TTotF. Now as for me and my training. I have used this everyday for 2 years straight as a sparring supplement. I am currently a student working on my A.A.S and I have stepped back from competition to focus on my education, I am about done with 2 months left but during this time I have not been associated with a gym and have had little to no sparring. Luckily my skills are at a professional level and I can train myself in my home boxing gym in this off time. Everyday however I have played the TTotF and have stayed sharp because of this game. My new training is working on my orthodox boxing stance since I am a southpaw. I use this game to work out all the glitches in my body and I have gotten so much more proficient in the righty stance. All thanks to TTotF. This is a highly realistic game. It really does feel like you're fighting someone. My recommendations are this. Utilize the Quest 2 tracking and find a space that represents the same size a boxing gym, I use my garage. This way you can move around and actually take it serious, since boxing is all about the footwork. You have to move. So finding a bigger open space is essential for the full effect of this game. Also use a vented face plate because if you go 12 rounds at 3 minutes a piece on the highest custom settings, you will be sweating profusely. I leave a microfiber cloth around and wipe the lens in between rounds. I also suggest to buy the game on the Quest 2 itself. It's much quicker and you can play it anywhere. But the PC version has better graphics and more audience, so it feels more lively. Also, beat all the characters and play with the custom settings. I use this to perfect the intensity to make things more realistic. Higher speeds, faster block times, I also like how you can change each individual punch percentage. I always turn the lead jab up to 150-200%. So as you may have noticed, I love this game and use it in a more serious fashion. The developers have done the Lords work by creating this masterpiece and I can't be more appreciative for the mechanics and design of this game. Excellent work. I can't wait for VR boxing games in the future. 10/10, 5 stars.
