The Testament of Sherlock Holmes Review (Button Eyes)
The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is the 6th Sherlock game by Frogwares, and graphics-wise a major step-up from Sherlock vs Jack the Ripper, their previous game. You play as Sherlock and Watson, and one time as Toby, their dog, as a mysterious poison spreads upon London, and Sherlock himself is acting shady. Has he really gone over the dark side? Watson secretly investigates his friend as well.
As expected from a Sherlock game, you roam in 19th century London while finding some clues. There are also minigames, but sometimes these minigames feel out of place, like it belongs in a hidden object game. Luckily, you can skip these if you wish, although you'll miss out on an achievement. Unlike the newer games, the case you solve is one big mystery, not several unrelated ones, although it might seem like that at first. You can switch between 3 POVs here, third-person, first-person, and fixed camera. It's a cool and helpful feature that makes it easier to look at the environment, while also catering to different POV preferences.
There is a well-known issue in this game, that it often crashes while saving or when it autosaves. This can be annoying since the autosaves can be kinda far apart, making you have to redo a bit of progress again. There is a simple solution however, by installing the 4GB Patch, which is by the way not a 4GB-size program. Mine never crashes on save again since. However, I still recommend saving every once in a while, like maybe after a difficult puzzle or so.
The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is a pretty good detective mystery game. Give it a try if you're a fan of these kind of games, or if you enjoy the adventures of the legendary detective and his partner. It's also the first "modern" Sherlock game, so if the older ones seem outdated to you, you can start here.
