The Smurfs: Dreams Review (Cobalt_the_Fox)
Ok, first Steam review here we go. I'm a big Smurfs fan, have been for a few years now (probably only like 4-5 years ngl) and I've played all the modern games, Vileleaf, the Prisoner of the Green Stone, and now this title. So here's my thoughts.
Pros:
* Cute, charming art style. Loads prettier than the previous title, Prisoner of the Green Stone.
* Snappy, responsive gameplay even on my older (8+ year old) gaming laptop.
* Few if any glitches... see my cons below, on this one.
* Good sfx and music
* Interesting use of perspective at times
* Fun, easy-to-grasp mechanics
* Certain segments were good for a laugh, such as the premise of the stealth levels
* Don't have to be a big smurfhead to follow the plot
Cons:
* Repetitive gameplay at times, because most levels are very similar to one another
* You're left wishing that the side worlds were just as robust and themed as the larger worlds; especially if you're like me and you know and love the side characters' just as much as the ones they chose for the larger worlds
* Not really replayable after you get the achievements, not unless you wanna wait for a year or two and come back to it I'd bet; at the end of the day it's a platformer, you can get your platformer fix elsewhere
* Very child-friendly, for better or worse. As an adult playing the game, and something of a platforming veteran, I found most segments in this game very easy
* On the subject of glitches... unfortunately, the one area I experienced glitches was during the cutscenes! I'll have to replay levels or otherwise watch a YouTube compilation to experience the cutscenes that went out on me. :( It's like it would play 1 part of the cutscene and then the latter half of it (or next segment of it) would glitch and leave me on the black loading screen with the skip button in the corner.
Overall I'd highly recommend this title and Vileleaf if you want a Smurf game fix. (Skip Prisoner of the Green Stone and just watch its cutscenes on YouTube.)
