The Sims 4: Realm of Magic Review (MamaWolfBear)

I really, really, really like this pack. It is by no means perfect. The developers missed an opportunity by not expanding on this world more than they did. There are limited lots to built on and the Realm of Magic itself is small. They could have included some sort of system for Sims to attend magical classes or more locations at the magical commercial district such as a cafe for example. That being said, the pros for this pack outnumber the cons.
First of all, of all the magical creatures in the game, the spellcasters have the least limitations and the most practical usage. You can be a spellcaster and never use your spells if you chose not to without having to worry about managing additional mechanics like allergy to the sun, bloodlust, rages, emotional constipation, etc. The only thing you have to worry about is overcharging, which is mostly a danger if you are dueling or doing too many spells in a row for some reason, but that is not too hard to manage especially with the right talent points. You can live anywhere as a perfectly normal Sim and use your spells to make your life easier. Scrubbaroo (instant cleaning) and Repairo (instant repair) are awesome as are most of the Practical Magic spells. If you are pursuing a criminal career, the Mischief Magic spells are a lot of fun. Turning people into objects, or controlling their minds as your minions are just two spells that can be fun for evil Sims to play. Untamed Magic also has more than one spell that are just plain fun. Not to mention that the Potions you can craft can give some very useful results, such as the Immortality potion which stops your Sim from dying of old age. Additionally, you get the ability to fly on a broom as a method of transportation, which is a lot faster than walking, running, and biking. Plus it just looks plain cool, especially with the variety of brooms (and even a mop) you can choose from.
Another positive for this pack are the Build/Buy items, both hidden and readily available. I could argue that they could have added more things and if you do not like the mystical look they might not be up your alley. However, the fact is that this pack includes a lot of things. The furniture and architectural options are solid, giving you the ability to easily create magical homes especially if you get creative by combining them with other packs or basic items. The items can also add interest to non-magical homes. The familiar orbs, allowing you to walk around with a little flying creature at your side, are fun to use and can be useful for those who choose to engage in magical duels. The clothing is not bad but has a certain aesthetic which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Regardless, there are some nice pieces that can compliment a variety of looks if properly combined.
As far as glitches, I have not experienced many. The only really noticeable one I have found is that while having a familiar out, you sometimes cannot walk your pet (if you have the Cats and Dogs pack). Other than that, nothing has been so noticeable as to be memorable.
All in all, I use this pack more than any other pack in the game. Almost all my characters all spellcasters, even if I do not intend to play up the magical aspect. Once a player learns how to use them, the practical applications of this group of Sims are too good to not use them. I highly recommend this pack.
