The Siege and the Sandfox Review (jdelavega)
this game had caught my eye in what i believe was the 2022 or 2023 PC Gaming Show, but the moment i heard Amelia Tyler's voice as the narrator of this game—better known for her role as narrator in baldur's gate 3—I knew i needed to play this on day 1.
the game's atmosphere is mesmerizing. the detailed pixel art backgrounds, the unique sound each floor material makes when you walk on it and the dynamic lighting set the bases for an immersive experience that amelia tyler's captivating voice only adds to. the world looks beautiful and catches not only your eyes, but your interest in every piece of lore or story that she narrates as you play.
gameplay-wise, both the movement and the stealth components are very solid. platforming feels like fluid parkour while you transition from sprints into wall-runs and wall-jumps. the sounds you make when falling or walking will alert nearby enemies just as the sounds they make will point you on their positions even when they're out of screen. they will also detect changes in the environment—such as altered states in torches or doors—adding yet another layer of strategy to the stealth component, taking it far from the cone-of-vision hide-and-seek we often see in this genre.
tl;dr this game delivers a beautiful, atmospheric experience with engaging movement and stealth mechanics and top-notch voice acting. highly recommended!
