The Rumble Fish 2 Review (Big Long Dec)
Ok so this is based on my first impressions, I am familiar with Dimp's other fighting game Street fighter 4. So I went into this one thinking it had the same type of gameplay. Safe to say it isn't a street fighter if i had to compare it's more akin to a king of fighters. 4 buttons with bonus options for quick inputs (like 2 punches or 2 kicks). The gameplay is 2000s fighting game, a specific kind of jank I both love and understand has its limitations. The character models are very detailed which kinda makes them a bit uncanny against the kinda static backgrounds. Again I am aware this is an older game that has been ported so I wasnt expecting anything too extensive.
What I like:
Game has a sense of style and all the characters fill their respective fighting game "functions"
I love the music, its up beat and very... mid 2000s? I feel like I am saying that a lot
What I would like to see:
More graphics options would be nice, as right now there is full screen or alt+enter window. That being said you can click and drag the window size but thats a bit odd to do for graphics options in 2023
Also overall quality settings in the graphics would be welcomed. Like returning the game to 4:3
Final thought:
If you're a lab monkey like me who loves sinking time into training modes then this is another game to add to the collection. I like it, and hope it gets more love as this game bleeds a specific kind of style.
