The Room Three Review (jupiter darmin)
Welp, there it is... "completed" The Room 3 again. I still have to unlock the other 3 endings, but right now I'm just playing back through the series again.
So, if you're looking to my play hours as a guide to how long it takes to get through this game, I wouldn't. First of all, I've only done one of the four endings at time of review (there are 4 total for this one). Second, I've already played through this title a few times on mobile - that's where I originally found the game, and have played through the series a few times, just because of how great the series is.
So the idea is that you are continuing your journey from The Room and The Room 2, going from magical place to magical place, working strange magical artifacts to unlock the mysteries of each location. The main difference here is that unlike the other two, where you were more or less just in a room until you escaped that room, in this title you're actually moving from room to room to solve the mysteries. I'm not sure how fond I am of that, because the animation takes so long sometimes, lol. However, it is still one of my favorite titles from the mobile world, and I bought them all on Steam once again to (a) support the developers, and (b) because these titles are so great that I simply HAVE to go back from time to time to replay them. Over the years, I have really enjoyed them, that much.
Similar to an 'escape room' pattern, you will (and I'm making this up on the fly - no spoilers here) open the hidden panel to reveal the gem, which you will place in the brackets so it focuses a light beam, which activates a device that opens a hidden compartment from which you retrieve a gear... and so on. Step by step, you solve the strange riddles of each location before you move on to the next.
The neat thing about this one is the overarching theme of finding the strange black pyramids, which you use to unlock the final location. Unlike the other titles, where solving the machines in the rooms simply teleports you to a new location, this 'black pyramid' theme gives a little sense of continuity and progress, which adds to the atmosphere.
The graphics are amazing, the music is fantastic, everything about this series scratches the strange itch of wanting to manipulate cursed contraptions to unlock their dark secrets within. This is part of the reason I keep coming back, again and again, to this series.
So is it worth full price? Absolutely. Six bucks... you can pay fifteen or twenty bucks to watch some dumb movie that lasts a couple hours, or pay six bucks for hours of mystery and intrigue. Although this title is easily worth six bucks, these titles go on sale every now and then, and you can pick up the entire series for like six or seven bucks. If you can manage to do that, I say go for it, but if not, they're still easily worth full price.
I would encourage anyone thinking about buying this one to play the first two. While a little bit simpler, they carry the 'rest of the story' with them. This title is playable by itself, but perhaps won't make as much sense (or maybe it still won't make sense, lol). It's absolutely worth it to play all of these titles, in order, from start to finish.
At any rate, what are you waiting for. Just grab this one and run with it. With four endings, this one has even more playtime available than the first two.
