The Mortuary Assistant Review (DreadWolf)
Nobody can really think: if it’s a game I’m brave enough! Because you can be utterly surprised..
So that’s precisely what my mind was telling me the moment I set foot on The Mortuary Assistant.
I take a deep breath and go in, telling myself to be brave and to let my skills as a child who had played too much the ancient “board” game called operation, come out and shine!
The first thing that came to mind when you just had to start the embalming process the first time was… Okay I love the mystery that is ancient Egypt and this should not be that hard (I know the theory!) but then I gaze at the embalming stretcher before me and my face contorts. I’m so confused from what I am seeing that my face doesn't remember how to move my facial muscles anymore. I never expected to be doing an autopsy on Santa Claus. Yeah, bad idea to buy the game on a designated holiday, didn’t expect it to have “seasonal events” if that’s how someone can call it.
So let’s get into serious business here…
You play as Rebecca, a girl who just graduated and started working on that scary mortuary, so she can prove her worth to her closest relative. The first thing that can possibly shake you to the core is the well designed embalming process, and the graphic detail lvl it has. So after trying to finish the task at hand without fainting or something worse due to the well elaborated and various random jump scares, you have to proceed by filing the report of the deceased on the computer. While keeping an eye out for every little detail happening around you that could help finding the name of the demon who is making your nightshift a walking hell (well like, literally!)
The morgue can seem like a great place to practice your 'chill' skills because the guests don't mind if you're a bit 'stiff' or 'dead' tired. So It's the perfect spot to learn how to keep your cool and all, BUT THE ENTITIES DON’T LIKE IF YOU GIVE THEM THE “COLD” SHOULDER!
Right on track again, I promise!
Then once you can put a name to the demon hunting you on that shift, it’s time to burn it!
The game is replayable due to the randomization of the events or jumpscares, also everytime you go through a shift you can get closer to the truth both hidden in the mortuary and Rebecca herself. Also the obtainable endings are going to be based on the events happening on your shifts and your (so to speak) “choices” or even some secrets can be discovered by solving a puzzle (although there aren’t so many of them…)
If you want to drop a sweat this is the game for you, trust me!
