The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Review (Parboleum Loyce)
I've never been so bored playing a game.
The graphics are fine, though I'm aware others have issues with the character designs.
The performance is quite mixed - While generally the frames are alright, there's some serious frame drops that interrupt gameplay.
Sound design seems fine.
The writing also seems perfectly adequate, though nothing particularly interesting.
This game's capital sin, however, is a crippling lack of gameplay.
80% of the gameplay seems to be fairly mediocre platforming that is quite painful due to the frame drops, and the remaining 20% is split between walking about and "sneaking" around enemies, though the stealth is also fairly disappointing.
I had hoped that this game might be at least half as good as Styx: Master of Shadows.
It isn't.
If you're looking at this game for anything other than the fact that it features the Lord of the Rings setting, please look elsewhere. I would suggest the Styx series, personally.
