The Legend of Tianding Review (alison)
Legend of Tianding is a pretty solid game, even for people like me who dislike platforming and boss fights. There is a lot of platforming. There are a bunch of boss fights. As usual, both suck. But what makes this game great is the charming graphics and a setting which has never really been done before, as far as I know.
Liao Tianding is a depicted as a lovable rogue, and it feels good to take down the corrupt police, help the townspeople, give money to the poor, and so on. There is only a little bit of voice acting, but what is there really sets the tone, fully Taiwanese vibes. The art is great, all the nods to 古早味 classic dishes make you hungry while you play, and the controls are responsive, if a little awkward on mouse and keyboard.
If you like platformers, this is probably a no-brainer, but even if you don't, it's about a billion times more fun than the latest indie platformer about depression or a dead grandparent or something. Punch cop. Eat bun. Save Taiwan.
