The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III Review (Jean)
+ improved graphics since last installment
+ very cute characters
+ amazing npc design as always
+ love the detailed interiors of houses and cities
+ varied assortment of ppl from old installments (which is great)
+ many system, but easy to get into (reading, trying etc.)
+ sidequests and minigames
+ hidden...
+ certain mixed modes for characters, which is great (so some feel different than others)
+ interesting characters
+ as always very deep character development
+ many guest characters in your party (including old legends)
+ minigames <3
+ fishing
+ mecha fights at its peak
+ character indepth scenes for old and new
+ some pretty hard fight and not only a few Radiant Blademaster + Golden Rakshasa = like 10 retries
+ and yes, you should play without a guide as always, more interesting to figure out battle mechanics (thats why a few fights were pretty hard
+ deep politics, story and world building
+ costume design at its peak
+ melons and boards
+ at a certain point gets really great
+/- pretty difficult storywise, cause its a huge universe (should have informed me a bit beforehand, again!)
+/- pretty difficult wallfights, even if you are prepared
+/- the only RPG i know who have more bossfights as the total planet count of our galaxy!
+/- many characters, but still a recap for the player sometimes
+/- game mostly for veteran players who strive for good mechanics, lore and gameplay (over 40% mostly)
- localisation is still weak (but better than Squenix localisation)
- story is weaker somehow (but still ways better as Xenoblade Saga as a whole)
- too many bossfights
- longdrawn story and minimalistic progress overall, long passing not for everyone
- some cliches welldone >_>
- as always bland ouskirts design (hope that will change)
Conclusion:
Cold Steel in his Third installment is diffcult to rate. The story has its moments and some things tend go slower and makes things pretty much complicated. So you cant play this game as standalone. To bear with some cliche things is one thing, but you need endurance to play through the story, which turns out in some aspects to be great especially at some point until the end. Meanwhile you cant do half heartly playthrough, when you often have less hours to play play like 40% progressivly. This isnt the game for you. The story is pretty much 100% done when you go through sometimes unnecessary things. Even if you grind a lot you can get destroyed by many enemies. I suggest not reading any guide and just find for yourself how to beat the game (like myself included). The Gameplay and graphics improved a lot and there are many things to try. The story have some unexpcted development, which was great and enjoyable. But other things do get wornout. Mostly some points in the story were more enjoyable. But still cant hold a candle to the Trails in the Sky series. Cold Steel has many great characters, this installment ended pretty much with many question and some great things. So to your enjoyment it was...
